The PVHS Esports room...prior to occupancy.

Esports

In less than a year, with hard work from coaches, assistants, and a crew of Viking Genius Bar workers, the Viking Esports team is up and running.

They had a tremendous start to their rookie season.  Their Rocket League team missed making the playoffs through the math of a three-way tiebreaker, and their Valorant team made it to the state semi-finals in Juniata, dropping to Central York.  In the Spring, we are gearing up for our high-level matches in Overwatch 2.  Former student, cofounder of Viking Esports, and nationally ranked Overwatch player Ethan Piperno is offering weekly online practice sessions before the first match on February 28.

In addition to running a Viking Esports team, the ESports crew has started welcoming Middle School East down to the arena on alternating Tuesdays. Middle school students are getting to know the feel and function of the space and are gaining some understanding of what it’s like to compete with your teammates in competitive matches. Not only does this help them build teamwork and communication skills, but it also serves as a pipeline to feed the HS program and assure us of growth and future success.

“In addition to the work the high school team has put in to create and compete in the amazing space funded largely by the PVSDF, a team of students from middle school East has started to come down to the arena on alternating Tuesdays.  These students are getting to know the feel and function of the space and are gaining some understanding of what it’s like to compete with your teammates in competitive matches.  Not only does this help them build teamwork and communication skills, it also serves as a pipeline to feed the HS program and assure us of growth and further success.”

Support Projects like Vikings Esports

Teachers don’t always have access to materials, technology, and other resources that can make the difference between a lesson that is forgotten the next day and one that lasts beyond graduation. That’s where you come in. Your contribution to the PVSD Foundation helps ensure that the Foundation can continue to support teachers in delivering enriching educational opportunities for all students when tax dollars and traditional revenue streams fall short.
