Sensory Bins

Sensory learning opportunities are valuable throughout the educational experience, but perhaps even more so at the kindergarten level. This is a critical point in development, as tactile opportunities help students develop sensory and fine motor skills and incorporate those skills into other learning environments. Through sensory bins, kindergarten students at Schwenksville Elementary can further develop those critical skills.

Kindergarten teachers Elizabeth Banaszynski and Betsy Kolb recognized this need and wanted to bring sensory bins into their classrooms. As kindergarten is such an important age for student development, these sensory bins will include items across the curriculum, with items focused on counting, letter recognition, mini-stories, and various items like kinetic sand and textured objects. Initiatives that can reach multiple curricular areas can help students build connections in their learning.

To support this grade-level project, PVSD Foundation provided funding for the necessary materials to build the sensory bin experience. Storage bins, literacy materials, math materials, and tactile sensory items will all be available to kindergarten students as they implement these bins into their classrooms soon.

PVSD Foundation is proud to support this endeavor as we seek to develop learners’ academic and sensory growth through Perkiomen Valley.

Support Projects like Sensory Bin

Teachers don’t always have access to materials, technology, and other resources that can make the difference between a lesson that is forgotten the next day and one that lasts beyond graduation. That’s where you come in. Your contribution to the PVSD Foundation helps ensure that the Foundation can continue to support teachers in delivering enriching educational opportunities for all students when tax dollars and traditional revenue streams fall short.
