Death, Loss, & Grief Professional Development
Despite the many positives throughout Perkiomen Valley, the truth of life is that there is also grief and suffering over the loss of a loved one. Unfortunately, it is an inevitable experience that, at some point, we all lose someone close to us. Through the Death, Loss, and Grief Professional Development, School Social Worker Patti Colluci is helping educate staff on the best current practices to support students in likely their greatest time of need.
Through the professional learning opportunity, staff will gain insights into how to help students navigate the uncertain times surrounding losing a loved one. These times of loss can happen at critical developmental stages that can affect student growth, both academically and socially. As a stable support during these experiences, students can turn to teachers and school staff as trusted adults to help guide some of the grieving process.
PVSD Foundation provided multiple key elements to specifically support this learning opportunity. Funding for journals, water bottles, and individual packs of tissues allowed participants to engage in this learning opportunity and walk away with real strategies to support those in need. This demonstrates the value PVSD Foundation places on supporting those in need within our community.
PVSD Foundation is proud to support this initiative, which enhances students’ social-emotional skills and contributes to their academic success in Perkiomen Valley.
